Peavy Makes Pitch For Lofton

Oct 23, 2014 8:25 AM

Jake Peavy made a strong pitch for free agent Kenny Lofton on Saturday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I like Kenny," Peavy said of Lofton. "I think he'd bring a dimension to this ballclub that we don't have any of -- we have no team speed. "It's not my call. It's not my decision. But he'd definitely be a spark."

Agent: Bonds Has No Offers

Oct 26, 2014 6:36 AM

Barry Bonds still is awaiting an offer from an MLB club. "No team has made an offer at any price at any time. That's a simple fact," Bonds' agent Jeff Borris told SI.com. "At this point in time, no club has even offered the minimum salary. And even though the minimum salary wouldn't be a bona fide offer for a player of his stature, it's beyond comprehension that no team would make such an offer.'' RealGM Note: Bonds made $15.5 million in 2007 and 'deserved' to make $13.25 million as the 22nd best player in the MLB according to our FIC stat.

Crede: 'Door Always Open' To Negotiate

Oct 23, 2014 5:30 AM

Joe Crede claims that he is open to negotiating a new contract with the White Sox, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "There is nothing on my part that I don't want to negotiate a deal or anything like that," Crede said. "I have never said that I didn't want to negotiate a deal. There have never been any concrete talks with us on doing something. If that's what they want to do, that's fine. Our door is always open, though. You can never turn down something that will change not only your life but your kids' lives and their kids' lives. You can't shut the door on that no matter when it happens." "It doesn't bother me that it's the stance they want to take. They have their negotiating tactics, and obviously we have ours," Crede added.

Could Thomas, Bonds Be On Oakland's Radar?

Sep 20, 2014 7:44 AM

The Athletics are playing good baseball, and it seems possible that Billy Beane would entertain the idea of signing Barry Bonds or Frank Thomas, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "I saw that he was released (Sunday) morning," assistant GM Dave Forst said. "We haven't even talked about it. We've got a couple DH options here now. Honestly, we haven't even had a discussion." "We obviously enjoyed our time with Frank here (the '06 season), so sure, we'll have a discussion," he added. Bonds, however, doesn't seem like as much of a possibility in Oakland. "Barry who?" Forst said when asked about Bonds.

Minnesota's Kubel Wants Long-Term Deal

Jul 27, 2014 10:36 PM

Jason Kubel would like a long-term deal from the Minnesota Twins, but the team would prefer that he earn such a contract, according to the Pioneer Press. "I'm trying to show them my legs are good and that I can be counted on for the entire season," said Kubel. "If I can get 500 at-bats and have a good year, hopefully that will put some pressure on (the Twins) to do something so I can stay here." He will become a free agent after the 2010 season but would like to remain with the Twins well past that time. "It's really the best avenue for a club like ours to keeping (high-value players), but there is an element of risk to it," assistant GM Rob Antony said. "Big markets can go year to year with their players (during their first six seasons, when players cannot walk away) because they have the wherewithal to pay (market) values once they reach six years. We have to project what our players will do and lock them up before we have to bid against 29 teams."

Upton will not become a free agent until 2013, after being selected as the top overall pick in the 2005 draft.

If Barry Bonds is going to play baseball this season, it'll likely be for either the Tigers, Blue Jays or Mariners, according to the New York Times. The legendary slugger has repeatedly said on his personal web site that he has continued to work out and remains in good shape.
